Subrat Saurabh’s “Kuch Woh Pal” : My Review

Subrat Saurabh, a young writer, poet and blogger – is popularly known by his pen name “ChickenBiryanii” on Social Media sites. He is proficient in writing witty one-liners, a skill he employs liberally on Twitter or Facebook using his pen name; thereby making his opinion heard on a wide range of issues. Interestingly, writing short stories and Hindi poetry was his hobby since his childhood days which he continues even now and also he is a keen observer of happenings around him and he loves to get poetic with it.

Kuch Woh Pal is a collection of Hindi poems through which the writer takes you on a journey blended with ecstatic and painful experiences of a young boy taking on the struggles of life where he is away from his home for studies, makes new friends, finds love, break-up and finally going through tumult of emotions like anger, depression, apathy, romance, frustration, loneliness, separation etc.

The most notable part of the book is that it has not lost the poetry element, I mean rhyming amidst forceful prose/ expressions…

#Colgate Magical Stories: Thrilling ride in space with Colgate!

Toothpaste matlab Colgate!

Colgate has been integral part of our growing up years when every day began with Colgate and concluded with Colgate and everything fell in between. Colgate has been a complete solution provider for Oral hygiene and I am sure, our generation only knew Colgate for toothpaste. It has been integral part of our morning chores – No wonder so many ladies trust Colgate for their children’s pearly whites – Colgate hai to bharosa hai!

So when I came know about #ColgateMagical Stories by Colgate mailed to us by Blogadda, my mind just went back to my childhood when we use to indulge in such activities. Probably this is not the case with youngsters of today who have all the sophisticated gadgets to their disposal. I told Blogadda, that though I want to participate but I my child has outgrown to take part in this activity, to this Blogadda told me that you can do this activity with any children around you. This is how “My Story” began with #ColgateMagical Stories.

In a short span of time, I received packs in attractive packaging from Blogadda for which I had already chosen my cooperative and attractive colleague Reena Noronha, who is mother of two – Joshua (8) and Judith (5)intelligent, inquisitive, creative & naughty to the core! For third story, I chose my young & exuberant colleague Bhagyashree Kanade’s Cute & Curious daughter, Abha (7).

I shared, the details with about the #ColgateMagicalStories with Reena, who reluctantly agreed to take part in the activity, but as I was confident her children were very excited to take part in the activity. Reena took lot of trouble in handling the kids who helped them with cutting, pasting and explaining them. The scene resembling nothing short from the comic strip – Denise the Menace. Excellent Manager that Reena is, she could take best out of the kids.

Children are at their creative best when they are given something colourful to look (painting), interesting to cut & paste (Craft) and weave a story (Story Telling) around it. Colgate with Magical Stories had just caught the pulse of the children with this activity where a child’s all creative faculties are at play.  Joshua & Judith were super-excited to be involved in the activity where they could cut & paste and weave a story around it. First and foremost – Joshua gave attractive names to the characters & Judith was no less, she also came up with attractive names, taking burden of naming ceremony from Reena’s shoulders.

First Pack: 1646636 SL: Joshua Noronha Narrates:

I like all things about space and want to be in a space station. I think the Boy in space –suit is me, but not me, I will call him Capt. Shijin who wants to live in Space station and work in Earth’s orbit. Shijin is very happy in his space suit which weighs 127 kgs with 13 layers of material. The cute looking girl is Shijin’s sister, DORA who wants to go with his brother. Brother and Sister both are happy that will be in space.

They tell their parents about the space, who get very scared but allow them. Excitedly, mom of Capt. Shijin and Purser Dora pack them with lot of stuff. Starting from Packs of Colgate to brush their teeth in the morning, eatables during the day and brush again in the night. Shijin also takes Chocolates and Cookies for her sister.  Always they had seen the Space Stations on TV and Movies, for the first time they were going there. They were very excited when Rocket zoomed with loud noise and placed them in station.  The ride was thrilling but scary, but Capt. Shijin and Dora loved it.  They were going be in the sky amidst stars.

Capt. Shijin asked Dora to write everything from space, so that they can tell them all about it in school, in return he gave Dora a chocolate. She was very very happy!

Second Pack: P1646636 AP : Ms.Judith Noronha Narrates:

I am Judy, I love to be in Space, as seen in movies. The girl on the Alien Planet is Me, Judy who is in her space suit and gun like thing. I love to hold guns, so I love holding this also. I am glad that space suits give Oxygen to breathe in outer space. I set out in cute train to reach the Satellite and I am very happy with the ride. I am more happy because I am carrying my Colgate with me so that I don’t miss brushing my teeth which makes my mom happy. On the way I see UFO which is very wonderful. I have not seen anything before like this.

As I am reaching space, I see Alien, who is very cute and looked and cuddly, I called him Jaadu, who was from some other planet. I told Jaadu, I want to visit your planet and want to know how aliens live, eat and sleep. Jaadu happily agreed to take along cute little Judy in his Rover, which easily moved around planet. Judy was very happy to visit another planet with Jaadu. When she returned from planet, Jaadu’s mom gave her many dresses, chocolates, cookies, comics, flowers…all things Judy loved.

Judy happily came back loaded with present which she happily shared with her brother Joshua. She told all stories to her friends in school who enjoyed it very much.

Third Pack: P1646636 : Ms. Abha Khedkar Narrates (7)

The cute little girl is Doreme as she resembles the famous cartoon character, Doreme who wants to go to Space, like me. I am making my friend Doreme ready for going to Space. I dress her up in Space Suit made for astronauts with Oxygen to breathe in outer space. I give her a gun also so that she is saved from attacks. As she starts her engine like space vehicle, Doreme shouts, UFO…

…UFO scares her and she takes out her gun to shoot. But it flies high and she missed her aim.

On her way, she sees an alien who has a gadget in hand. Doreme takes her gun out to shoot, but Alien shouts, “ I am your brother Doremon”. I will take you around in Space so that you enjoy your trip. I will call my other Alien friends who will love you and give you gifts.  Doreme did not believe him at once, but he came close, she liked him.  His eyes looked as if had two bulbs in them which were showing way in the dark. Doremon walks with heavy head and heavy feet. I smiled at him when he walked which made him angry. Doreme took out her gun to shoot but gun fire did not work on Doremon. He had thick shield on his body. Doreme said sorry to Doremon and brother sister moved for their space walk. When Doreme came back to earth, she had many gifts given by her brother and she loved them all. In return Doreme gave them packs of Magical Colgate toothpaste to all friends of Doremon who loved them a lot. How she wished she had brother like Doremon!

Colgate, Thanks you very much providing this opportunity of bringing out creativity in the children around me, who enjoyed the activity very much and their mothers Reena and Bhagyashree came to know about their story-telling skills. Their journey to the space was exciting through throw away pack of Colgate. Well Said: आम के आम गुठलियों के दाम

A big thank you to Blogadda team for hosting this activity for me.

Open Eyed Meditations: Distillation of ancient wisdom for Modern Lives

TAG LINE: Practical Wisdom for Everyday Life

COME FROM: Author of the Bestselling Ramayana – The Game of Life Series

PUBLISHED BY: FINGERPRINT BELIEF

All of us supposedly know the term: Meditation but have we ever tried to explore the true rather deep meaning of the term? Not really! We are convinced all this is not for us, the lesser mortals of the land, but only for those who want to explore higher realms of life. We are happy the way we are. But are we? Not really, till I read: Open Eyed Meditations by famed author & motivational speaker Shubha Vilas.

51uwegmeqwl-_sx320_bo1204203200_

Other terms to understand with open eyes when all our faculties are at their functional best subject to so much distraction from all quarters. So for all of us lesser mortals, there is Shubha Vilas, author of best-seller Ramayana: The Game of Life Series, who very effectively takes us through the process of Meditation with Open Eyes! Hence the title: Open Eyed Meditations.

The book is another Gem from the author which is very practical and functional in its approach. The interpretations are so apt that in many chapters that we would be  compelled to think that: This is ME, The Thought is MINE, the struggle is MINE, the example is MINE, the success is MINE, the failure is MINE, the dilemma is MINE…it completely immersed ME. There is so many take-aways from this rare gem that your JEWEL BOX would be full, but not your heart. For many books, in the end I have taken sigh of relief, thank God, it’s over but for Open Eyed Meditation, the feeling was: Oh! Got Over!! Yeh Dil Maange More!!!

img20170216172529

The book has 64 chapters which run through 278 pages having attractive Cover Page and appropriate credentials on the Back Cover. Book is attractive to receive and engrossing to read. Every chapter is summarized in the end thus making each chapter more meaningful to the reader.  Many chapters just leave you mesmerized and you start self-questioning yourself: How would have I reacted in such a situation?  The answer is in the book.

I would like list few pearls of wisdom here:

  • Is decision making a feeling based art, or a logic-based Science?
  • Comparison is a systematic way of insulting your uniqueness and gifting yourself with misery.
  • Dealing with negativity does not need good aptitude but good attitude.
  • Your happiness quotient lies in how much joy you give others.
  • Our mind, like the lion in a zoo, needs to be confined within the boundaries of discipline.
  • Ravana exists not outside us but within. And he attacks in multiple ways
  • The bug of discontent has spread like an epidemic to destroy the healthy mind.
  • Greatness comes from dealing with imperfections
  • While ordinary people complain of life’s harshness, extraordinary people are busy dealing with them as lifetime opportunities.
  • Quantitative growth or qualitative growth, this marks the difference between good leaders and great ones.

In fact all of us must inculcate meditation to release stress from our daily lives, which is not happening though. But reading rather possessing this book would enable you to do meditation with open eyes where you can choose the chapter which suits your state of mind. The examples have been drawn from Epics Ramayana and Mahabharata which we have grown up reading, however I feel you will enjoy the book to the hilt if you know these epics and their characters well. The generation which has not been fed by these epics may not be able to draw inferences well. The book needs to be read not only with Open Eyes but with Open Minds, Hearts & Souls too, it will do wonders to your existence. You would be able to add so much more value to this invaluable life.

open-eyed-6

A beautiful journey through 64 chapters, the book is life a verse which you would like to recite in every stage of your life: Young, Old, Not-so-old, Career, Children, Marriage, Relationships, Solitude, Education, Interactions, Indecisions, Leaderships and Distractions…

…it effectively addresses your anxieties.

Ideally the book should be read at a stretch but it is difficult for its 278 pages and I read many pages twice to get the clear understanding of the ideology discussed. The book simply brings out the essence of deeper realms of life which we cannot explore with closed eyed meditations, what to say of open eyed meditation. The book is a self-help book which should be your prized possession for all your life.

Keep it and gift it to spread the AROMA!

Road Trip>>>To realize the true spirit of JAI HIND!

Road Trip from Dholero to Indo-Pak Border

dscf0110
I ( Bienu Verma Vaghela) with Husband Mukund Vaghela taking a break from the long drive.

The lure of road trip is insurmountable; many of us have aspired for one; many of us have taken one willingly or unwillingly; many of us are still dreaming about it; many of us had given up on road trip, like me, but that was not to be. Given the avid travelers that we are, we love adventures and whenever we have aspired for a peaceful trip, adventure rather misadventure has followed us.  Given the ‘Bollywood” buff that I am, I had seen road trips in movies and admittedly have been quite fascinated by them particularly the one in Dil Chahta Hai and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.

dscf0107
Me and my daughter Tanya took a break to enjoy the breeze just before the border

Road trip sounds exciting but are actually taxing and painful at the same time for people like me who love to travel by train and plane! In my weirdest dream I had not imagined that Road trip would become a reality for me, though it was thrust upon us by circumstances. Howsoever exciting it may sound: Road Trip, it gets excruciatingly painful, if not planned well. ‘Planning’ plays paramount role in venturing out for a road trip. First and foremost, roads should be in great condition to drive on, amenities to be bankable, service centers, petrol pumps, eating joints, toilets etc. enroute so that we have a pleasant drive and we happily reach our destination.

We planned to embark on one such road – trip in December 2012, when we visited scenic and serene Rann of Kutch and were camping at ‘Bhungas’ (Mud Houses) in Dholero Village near Rann. It was then we were told that Pakistan Border was few 100 Kms away and it made a great sight. I, in particular became very keen to visit the border as I wanted to visit that place, which nobody had visited in my khandan or even in my friends circle. I want to boast: I have been to India – Pakistan Border. Whole night I did not sleep in excitement but to my great disappointment, driver took to illness and did not turn up.

My husband, me and my daughter decided to venture out on our own and took upon driving on us to the border. Resort owner was kind enough and noticing our disappointment, he offered his one of his staff to accompany us. Now we were to embark into a new territory, new area, new car and new destination. My husband took onus of driving on him and person accompanying him sat next to him for guidance. With lot of apprehensions in heart, we started on our road trip on chilly, breezy, wintry morning from Dholero Village to India – Pakistan Border.  But not before checking the condition of the car we would be driving to border and bring us back. I was particularly more worried as our daughter was with us. But she was quite gung-ho about it. We stocked enough food & beverages in the car which was quite spacious and commodious to accommodate four of us comfortably.  Then we went to nearby garage to get the report of condition of car, breaks, clutch, accelerator and last but not the least tyres. The Car’s condition was good and above all, tyres were in excellent condition which took good amount of worry off our shoulders.  For worry-free road – trip, you can bank on most bankable CEAT Tyres, like we did.

Packed with sufficient fuel, we embarked on the journey.

To our delight, roads were in excellent condition with proper signage’s all over which made the drive very pleasant and provided quite an experience.  Moreover, bright sunny but breezy / windy day made the driving slightly more challenging.  The remarkable part of the way to border was that it had deep marshlands on both sides. We saw many cars stranded in the marshland which looked like mirage. To describe it better, there are vast marshlands on both sides of the road when you approach border. After this adventurous but exciting drive which changed three hands, we reached Indo-Pak border which was heavily guarded by BSF Personnel who asked us to keep our cameras and mobiles in the car and then step out. The sight was so exciting, I saluted the Jawans guarding the borders and for the first time I realized under which conditions they guard our borders so that we civilians sleep peacefully. All in all our maiden trip turned out to be quite a satisfying experience. Special Thanks to my husband Mukund, our companion for the drive and taking us through Mukesh and my daughter Tanya for making my dream realize.  Though we did not anticipate any trouble spots during the journey, and did not find any but yes checking at various check posts provided breaks to the drive. But these were important for country’s safety.

Special Thanks to Blogadda and CEAT tyres to make me relive the experience. Indeed I had to stress my mind to recollect the road trip which I undertook in completely unknown terrain – The Rann of Kutch to Indo-Pak border in Gujarat – JAI HIND.

Road Safety Norms:

ceat-tyres-win-series-family-63811_578x280

Everyday as soon as we open Newspaper, we get to read about atleast 2 road accidents particularly on Highways or long drive-ways people undertake. Most of these are owing to negligence about following the Road Safety trips. It is important not only for drivers but also for pedestrians so that no untoward accidents happen.

Everyone should learn the following road safety rules preferably from an early age:

  • Everyone going on the road (especially drivers) must be to the left and let other vehicles pass on the opposite direction to pass.
  • Drivers should be in slow speed while bending or turning on the roads.
  • Take extra precaution while going on the over-crowded roads and road junctions.
  • Bikers or people using two wheel vehicles must wear helmets of superior quality otherwise they should never go on the road without helmet.
  • Speeds of the vehicles should be within the speed limit and slow especially in the areas of school, hospital, colony, etc.
  • Every vehicle on the road should maintain the right distance among them to avoid collisions and accidents.
  • Everyone using road should be well aware of the road signs and must follow rules.
  • All the road safety rules and regulations must be in mind while traveling.

Following the above rules, you are not only ensuring your safety, but others too and following duties of a Good Citizen. And…and don’t forget to have Ceat Tyres in your dream machine!!

‘I’m chronicling my road trip adventure for CEAT Tyres in association with BlogAdda.’

#DearZindagi, gratitude for filling my JUG!

I have been constantly stressing my mind since I have read about #DearZindagi contest on @BlogAdda, so question to myself…Who is the JUG of my life? The go to friend whom I can wake up any given point of day for anything (Just that? No she has to be much more). Though I have been quite friendly person otherwise, but I have very few friends and JUG?? @Blogadda has stirred hornet’s nest with the question which all of us need to ask ourselves, do we have JUG in our life really? Or were we living in fool’s paradise all these years? The question is if the need arises, will my bestie stand by my side. Will she or won’t she? Can’t say till the moment of truth arises.

I am lucky that I have a JUG in my life which is full…

img_20160812_123107147

…JUG in my life came from most unexpected quarters…for years together, I had no one on whom I can unload fears, aspirations, ambitions, past, present, secrets, achievements, accomplishments and I was quite cool about it. I lived within me, quite happy in my own space and never acknowledged what I was missing in my life. But then somebody walked in my life from the most unexpected territory…as office colleague, team member…whatever you name her. & Life has never been the same again. It was not that bonding was instant but her presence grew on me. We started sharing so many things…controlled from my side…uncontrolled from her side.

She is most vibrant, truthful, straightforward and sprightly person I have come across. Though she is my years junior but somehow I could connect well with her. Her immature demeanor has mature interior and she is the one who brought out the best in me, which I had missed for all these years. Always attentive to my advice, scolding, bantering…praises (rarely though), she has opinion on all things and everything. Her love for life is infectious, which has caught me by surprise. All this and more, she is there for me in all good times, bad times, sad times, and most dependable JUG around. Sometimes I marvel, do such people exist or God has strategically planted her in my life.

Early morning, middle of the day or end of the night I can offload my fears (hardly any) and worries or joys with her.  I worry her for anything and everything…laptop misbehaving, ATM not responding, Difficulty in handling daughter, Everyday office circus, Kashmir issue, Which dress or rather accessories to wear, ever on the move real – estate scenario, family gossip, office gossip…what not!  This was never my forte, I was always ‘me’ person till she happened.

We share many passions, most important ones being for our profession – PR, family and travel. Both of us bond over great photography sessions post our office functions which both of us anchor with élan or decision to dress similarly for many occasions, non-occasions. We love Indian Handloom sarees and this is one good point of discussion where we interchange knowledge on beautiful Indian Sarees.

img-20160516-wa0023

I never thought on these lines till @Blogadda #DearZindagi asked me to and would have never thought too, that my colleague Bhagyashree Kanade Khedkar would be near indispensable to me. Life somehow looks disturbing without her, though she is biggest disturbing element around…But I love it.

#Dear Zindagi she made my Zindagi dearer than ever…

Would love to watch #DearZindagi directed by Gauri Shinde and Shahrukh & Alia starrer with her!

am writing about Jug in my life for the #DearZindagi activity at BlogAdda“.

Post II: #TaxPledge: IT Returns you must E – FILE!!

आई टी रिटर्न्स फाइल करेगा इंडिया तभी तो बढ़ेगा इंडिया

Oh! You have filed your returns…great but still stuck with the question…I have paid Tax on all my investments, savings and salary, then why IT returns?

e file 2

Here you go>

Non-filing of Income Tax Return attracts interest, penalty, prosecution and scrutiny from the Income Tax Department. There are some myths associated with filing; a common fear is that the taxman comes knocking at the door if the tax returns is filed. But this is not true, why they would come knocking if you have fulfilled your duty.

However, the benefits lost on non-filing of returns are more than the penal provisions imposed for non-filing. Following are the benefits of filing of the income tax returns: For Accidental Claims in Third Party Insurance, for eligibility in all loan applications from Banks, for immigration profile obtaining visa outside India, for obtaining government tenders, registration on panels, for appointment in Judicial & Class one Jobs, for obtaining LIC/GIC agency and for Start-up Funding.

One more question? Is e-filing your Income Tax Return compulsory? Yes, e-filing of the Income Tax Return has become compulsory if your Total Income exceeds Rs. 10 Lakhs or if you own foreign assets, you must e-file.

e file 3

You are e-filing your returns not for yourself as it entitles you to several benefits but also for the development of your country which is funded through the tax which you pay on your self-declared income. Believe me there could not be bigger joy than this. This annual activity should be seen as a moral and social duty of every responsible citizen of the country. It is the basis for the government to determine the amount and means of expenditure of the citizens and provides a platform for the assesse to claim refund, among other forms of relief from time to time.

What if I am not in the Income Tax slab? Good Question!

Even if your income level does not qualify for mandatory filing of returns, it is important that you voluntarily file returns. In most states, registration of immovable properties requires advancing as proof the tax returns of last three years. Filing returns makes it easier to register the transaction besides, it gives you joy that you have declared your income to the Government. Probably it would help authorities to build projections on the Incomes in future.

Watch H & R Block video to know how they have made it so easy to e file your returns?

Every Law abiding citizen must file returns, if you do not feel comfortable doing it yourself, you can visit website of H& R Block and use their easy software and their unique hand-holding programmes.  The government mandates that individuals who earn a specified amount of annual income must file a tax return within a pre-determined due date. The tax as calculated must be paid by the individual. Failure to pay tax will invite penalties from the Income Tax Department.

I don’t want to scare you from IT officials knocking your door any more, as PM Narendra Modiji in a recent Convention has asked IT officials to play the role of facilitators and not scare citizens with their presence. Hope & Wish IT officials follow this dictat and come knocking your door to say – A BIG THANK YOU!!!

I’m taking the #TaxPledge to file IT returns with the easy Income Tax efiling option from H&R Block at BlogAdda.

Post I: #TaxPledge Cooler Room Talks & Tax!

With this post on #TaxPlege I would like to take you back to the late eighties when I was a junior officer at biggest PSU of the country. Times were really different then, if I think of those times now…offices were different, colleagues were different, bosses were different and office culture was different! Believe me this transformation from those times to these times has been far from smooth.

Credit: Fotolia.
Credit: Fotolia.

As a very young official in those times, I was very curious youngster, that has not changed even now…I was very curious what senior officers discussed during their time in Cooler room…yes offices had big water coolers then and a room was dedicated to them. It was not only a place to satiate your thirst but also gossip (read network). Many a times I heard my senior officers were found discussing Tax ( Arre yaar I have to pay tax this month, salary would be half, expenses would be double etc. etc.). Then I use to think…this tax is really something great and enters in your life when you get promotion.  All through, I yearned, when would tax enter my life? It entered yes, when time came!

e file 4

& voila…what havoc tax played in my life. The carefree moments of getting salary and blowing it up shopping in Janpath & Connaught Place disappeared from life.

Going by the fact, I am the most rule & law abiding citizen you can think of, I started investing diligently under 80C since those times and paid taxes well and on time always. This is one part of the tax which every earning person should do as it leads to forced tax savings for your future and is a big source of revenue for the Government. Now came the time of Income Tax Return filing. I always thought it needs to be done by business groups, businessmen, self-employed or those having income from other sources. I have already paid tax to the Government on my salary, where is the need to file returns?

When my CA told me that I need to file returns, I went ahead and started doing it and I have been doing for many years…but this question still lingers on my mind. Why it is important to file returns for me?

It seems I too was living under perception like several others that having paid taxes at various sources, filing of returns is not important, because after all, the Government’s main objective is to ensure that its tax kitty is getting the revenue due to it. This is a misconception and it is essential to know that it is our constitutional obligation to file tax returns when you are required to do so. So your job does not end at paying taxes, filing returns is equally important.

e file 1

My ex- CFO, Shri Balwant Jain, who is decorated with CA, CS, CFP, a great author & orator tried to convince me with this argument, “ Income tax authorities allow you to self assess your income and accordingly pay taxes. You tend to believe that your income tax return is a drop in the ocean for the income tax authorities and hence not declaring income or understating income may well is worth because it saves you a few bucks. Deliberately hiding your income from the income tax authorities, to reduce your tax liability, amounts to tax evasion. Some examples of tax evasion include, not declaring interest received on bank fixed deposits or accepting income in cash and not route it through the official system.”

Besides, you are not only part of the revenue stream to the Government, it is beneficial for you as an individual too if are a loan aspirant, if you are applying for VISA, want to become LIC agent, want to start your own venture – Start-Up or want to apply for Government jobs.

Still I was not convinced. But #TaxPledge contest provoked me to dig deeper. Let me add here that my CA has been filing my tax returns from several years but this year I switched to E-filing and attempted it with the help of my brother Prabhat Varma and documents support by husband Mukund. What an experience it was! So simple, so meticulous and I was thrilled like a child when acceptance note popped on my screen.

So you too go ahead with E- filing of Tax Returns yourself especially when the process can be done in a few clicks with e-filing platforms like H&R block. I have checked it personally and believe me it is most uncomplicated platform to file your IT Returns.

Please go ahead, visit HR Blocks website and in a jiffy you returns are filed, of course if you are armed with all relevant details. Watch video for all details:

People here you go…& you are in the list of law abiding citizens of the country as you have fulfilled your duty towards India.

I’m taking the #TaxPledge to file IT returns with the easy Income Tax efiling option from H&R Block at BlogAdda.

#ShareTheLoad – Different perceptions across generations!!

My mother, me & my daughter are representatives of three starkly different generations, strong characters, well – educated, well-groomed and head-strong individuals. She imbibed some values in me which helped me immensely in my later life (Read: Married life). It cannot be denied that marriage brings along a BIG bundle of responsibilities for which we are not well prepared for. If you have certain ambitions to fulfill, then challenge becomes even bigger!

Tanya & Bienu

For her GenNext she was fully supportive of my career moves but alongside she said that your career should not take heavy toll of your family life which you have willfully chosen.  I assured her that it will not but unfortunately it did. Household chores were too much to handle with demanding office job and cranky child.  For her it was unthinkable for her to suggest me that I involve my husband into household work. What to say of knowing about Akshara which has been at the forefront of the effort to making our society a gender equal and violence free one. My mother fully believed in “division of labour” but she always encouraged me to do it together, but how? Probably she had no answer!

A girl’s life is full of dreams, she is born with the wings and we as parents give flight to those wings. She dreams to becoming a good student, successful professional, loving wife and caring mother but the biggest dream is of having supportive husband.  Unfortunately, social milieus don’t support her dreams. Howsoever well-qualified she is – she has been allotted the roles of wife and mother through an unwritten code which brings along host of household responsibilities. The mindset needs a change and should embrace #ShareTheLoad where mothers of sons have a bigger role to play. So that concept takes firm root with future sons-in-law.

Akshara

I, as a mother has taught my daughter to efficiently balance all roles with élan…it is just not enough that you are a successful professional but a lousy home maker. You are an equal partner with your husband, as a bread-winner and as bread-baker. You should involve him in your laundry especially with the help of Ariel and make it the most enjoyable chore of the household.

My daughter Tanya has noticed that whenever I have fallen sick or travelled on work, house has not come to a grinding halt, courtesy – #ShareTheLoad concept which we adopted years ago. Thus it was not that great a challenge for me to imbibe the concept in GenNext as I was the harbinger of this concept in my family or even social circles.

Now many girls in the family have emulated this model and are proud professionals and great home makers too!!

Having a cake and eating it too!!

#ShareTheLoad: It worked! It really worked for me!!

When I received the blogadda post on twitter about the campaign #ShareTheLoad with Ariel and Akshara about the sharing the load of household chores, it interested me no end. I am sort of a champion in my family who has broken the mould of stereotypes of working husband and sulking wife. Even before marriage I had discussed with my husband about my inclination to work, not just work but take up career in the demanding field of media. This way I had eroded that first hurdle hence it did not come as a shock to him after marriage.  I am sure he wouldn’t have figured out what it was like having a working wife coming from conventional Gujarati household.  Even I came from stereotypical Kayastha (UP) background where girls pursued higher education, but were seldom allowed to go for work that too for unconventional fields like media.  I started working at an early age on responsible positions, not bothering much about household work. (Big disadvantage of having efficient mother). Mother being an excellent home maker and father being a breadwinner, everything was well set in Varma household as everybody was in their well-defined roles.

2

However this was not the case when I got married. Life became stressful with family, household, kid, office…what not. The carefree life of bachelorhood took 180 degree spin. The life looked like a big trapeze act, balancing so many roles at a time and one slip, you are gone. Time was passing…child was growing up.

It was then, one fine morning, me and my husband decided to walk into each other’s territory, emulating the concept of #ShareTheLoad in toto.  This was some twenty years ago.  I would like to share here that sharing laundry was the biggest decision as it was always a woman’s domain to provide family members with washed and ironed clothes, every single day, so much so…four times a day.  The conventional mould was broken when my husband Mukund started helping me with Laundry every Saturday; yes we did laundry only once a week on Saturdays.  Not only it was like #ShareTheLoad but we started enjoying it together with chit chats on various topics under the sun right from family matters to religion, politics, education, entertainment, banking, finance …what not?  Washing clothes was no longer a mundane course for us now. And yes, Ariel has been our constant companion since then, which is very friendly on hands, clothes, washing machine and on pocket too!

There have been many such times when I have had pressing schedules, urgent presentations, Blogadda deadlines  or outstation travel, Mukund completely steps out of stereotypical mould of husband and takes complete charge of not only laundry but of entire household. This way in my generation, the mould was re-engineered which enabled me to excel in my work and my house also ran smoothly.

My mother was quite surprised at our decision as she could not imagine in her weirdest dreams that Papa would step in to help her with the laundry.

Nobody taught me or worked towards it at that time. Also I did not know about #Akshara as we went by the dictum: Necessity is the mother of invention!

Akshara

Indeed Akshara has been at the forefront of the effort to making our society a gender equal and violence free one.

Today I can proudly say, #ShareTheLoad worked and worked quite well. Was it a dream for me? Oh yes! But not that far-fetched!! I took the inputs from my mother’s generation and started working on gender equality since then.

Today I have imbibed these values in my young daughter Tanya who is studying to be Digital Designer and is near adept at household work too! Oh yes making her think on these lines was quite a challenge. How? Read it in my next blogpost.

Pampers #SoftestForBabySkin – The ultimate experience!

Keep your baby healthy and happy and yourself tension free with the Pampers Active Baby.

Baby’s arrival is a happy occasion for every family, especially for a mother, who has gone through so much throughout this experience of motherhood. But motherhood brings along its own set of challenges. To make life easier for one such young mother I shared the pack of Pampers with Bageshree who obliged me by using the product and sharing her experience.

Bageshree

It was no different for young Bageshree who became mother to cute little Bhargav around 18 months ago.  Her joys knew no bounds, but yes she too was anxious about how to move out with such young baby in tow without proper diaper which is long lasting and comfortable too.

She tried many brands of Diapers, but zeroed in to Pampers Premium Care Pants owing to its softness, absorbency, hygiene and availability. She was very happy that she could easily get it on amazon.com from the comfort of her home. When I shared the product with her, she already knew about it well. Her major concern as a young and working mother was to keep baby’s bums dry and smooth as his skin is unable to bear even slightest of harshness. Skin’s health is best maintained by soft and dry diapers because a baby’s skin is smooth, soft and highly delicate which needs that extra care and attention. This is provided by Pampers Premium care pants surely.

Though I do not have data to support, but I believe Pampers Premium Care Pants – Diapers would be most preferred baby care product in the category by mothers all over. Closed to being a category killer, it merits over factors like: Softness, hygiene, absorbency, packaging and availability though I am not sure on pricing aspect. Nobody minds paying a premium for this unique product which brings along loads of happiness.

These Pampers Premium Care Pants, designed for babies weighing around 6 to 11kgs. However, you must look for the size that fits your baby best, as Pampers has a wide range of sizes depending on your baby’s weight and age.

Pampers come with package of:

  • All night absorbency
  • Extra dry layer for all night dryness/absorbency
  • Baby lotion with Aloe Vera to protect skin and helps to provide smoother skin
  • Soft stretch waist and sides for superior fit comfort
  • Soft like cottony cloth

Happy mother, Bageshree, shared, “I have tried several brands on my delicate child but not of much avail. The diapers don’t give long-lasting dryness and ultimate smoothness which I look for as a concerned mother. I tried the Pampers Premium Care Pants and I must say I couldn’t have been happier owing to its softness, hygiene, absorbency and its attractive packaging which makes my son grabbing it at the slightest opportunity. It has also relieved me from  applying baby lotion after every change. I can surely say it is the most long lasting diaper we can have. Thanks for choosing me and my baby Bhargav for the unique product.”

I am really re-living those moments when I had to call for super absorbent diapers from my sister-in-law from the U.S.  Had Pampers being there, I would have enjoyed hassle-free motherhood and my daughter rash-free childhood.
